EDUCATION WORK

Richard has always enjoys working with young people, and indeed, anyone interested in exploring music of any age.

After University he worked for a year as pianist at the Dance School of Scotland (Glasgow) before commencing a PGCE in secondary education.

Though quickly deciding against full-time work in schools, he has remained closely involved in education projects. Over the years he has done educational projects with: Opera on a Shoestring, The SCO (and Edinburgh Secondary Schools Orchestra) the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, The Edinburgh International Festival, Scottish Ballet and the various orchestras of Edinburgh University.

He is a permanent guest lecturer to the Musical Theatre department in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, on both the Masters and BA courses. Since 2020 he has also been on the staff of Napier University Edinburgh, where he lectures on performance and pianoforte.

Internationally, he is a regular visiting lecturer at the Sound Thinking Academy in Brisbane, Australia and at the Malaysian Voice Academy, Kuala Lumpur.
